Volunteers – Welcomed, Needed, and Appreciated!

Some of the most satisfying moments in life are when we volunteer to help others. If you would like to put on your volunteer hat for a few hours each month and have some fun, we have some "satisfying moments" in store for you!

You can become part of a very special group of volunteers at Katella Senior Living Community who help residents with continued opportunities to stay involved in many different ways – physically, mentally, socially and spiritually. Katella Senior Living Community provides enriching activities and programs that promote a positive quality of life that is essential to each of our residents' well-being.

There are many great opportunities for volunteers to help including:

  • Assisting on outings (such as a personal shopper)
  • Serving food and beverages at parties or our weekly happy hour
  • Making arts and crafts

Our Volunteer Programs

At Katella Senior Living Community, you will find a loving and family-like atmosphere. We have resident ambassadors that visit with new residents and offer them orientation to the facility. They also take part in resident council and seeing that the birthdays, calendars, and menus are posted daily.

We also have eight older adult education instructors that teach two hours per class, once or twice a week. All instructors have degrees in their field of teaching, and these include:

  • Laughter is the Best Medicine
  • Arts & Crafts
  • Senior Topics
  • Books Come Alive
  • World News
  • Music Appreciation
  • Strength Training and Exercise
  • Journey Back In Time
  • New & Old

Katella Senior Living Community is blessed to have volunteers from the National Charity League (NCL). We currently have a program established where volunteers from the seventh grade National Charity League group visit and adopt a grandparent. We have begun a fun project where the seventh graders are gathering information about their adopted grandparent in order to write a biography of that person. This gives them an opportunity to learn first-hand about history and, most importantly, form bonds. NCL also creates handmade birthday cards for all the residents monthly.

We're also blessed to have Jr. High and High School students from our neighborhood that visit regularly and complete their required 40-100 hours of community service. This is a wonderful opportunity for the residents to see what the children’s interests, goals, and dreams are.

And we can't forget the concerts! We're fortunate to often have concerts given by students from the Los Alamitos Conservatory of Music and Music Students Service League.

We are thankful for all the volunteers and encourage people to come in and take part in this great opportunity. You will be welcomed and appreciated! If you have a few hours to share, please call us at 562.596.2773 or click here to fill out our online Volunteer Application. We look forward to hearing from you!
